Moncks Corner, South Carolina

Testimonial Copy:

"This shelter has been through a lot and is still standing."

Moncks Corner was almost wiped off the map back when hurricane Hugo roared through. (9/22/89) The eye of the storm passed right through the town. Look at the attached map. The line of the storm is marked, and if you follow it, just inland, the first lake you see is Lake Moultrie. Monks Corner is located on the Cooper River just southeast of Lake Moultrie. So it is located just a few miles on the northeast side of the storm, which is the absolute worst place to be during a hurricane. Hugo is the biggest, strongest hurricane to ever hit the East coast north of Florida. Andrew had slightly higher winds but Hugo was larger and moving incredibly fast. When it hit SC it had SUSTAINED winds of 140 MPH. By the time it hit Charlotte, Hugo was still pumping 90 MPH winds.

"Moncks Corner wanted ONLY Plasti-Fab shelters on their recent upgrade
because of the performance of the +25 year old shelter."
